Welcome to Mendl Dance

Our classes are designed to provide a wonderful introduction to the joy of music and movement through dance and are a great physical and aesthetic experience for all pupils.

Mendl Dance introduces and fosters an appreciation and love of classical music.

Below is some general information you may find helpful and which will help us all to enjoy the classes:

Studio Etiquette

It is important that everyone who enters the studio behaves in a manner appropriate to a dance studio.

I am very happy for parents and caregivers to remain during class time but I must insist on quiet at all times (this includes cellphones turned off)

so that students can concentrate and get the most from their class.

Please do not allow little brothers and sisters to wander around the studio while classes are in progress.

Your children attend these dance classes to learn (amongst other things) listening skills and

musical appreciation.  Little ones left to wander around the studio during class time interfere with this process and their presence becomes obtrusive.

Please use common sense and be considerate of others.

It is not essential that you remain in the studio for every one of your child’s classes.

If you choose not to stay and watch could you please let me know prior to commencement of that class and ensure that you return in good time to collect

your child at the end of the lesson.  Please wait in the foyer until your child’s class has finished.

Food

No food is to be consumed in the studio.  Please ensure that any snacks, drinks and visits to the toilet are attended to prior to the commencement of class.

Punctuality

Please endeavour to arrive at least 10 minutes before class is due to commence so that everyone is changed and ready to begin on time.

It is extremely distracting for children to have others arriving after class has started.

If you happen to be running late it is helpful to everyone if your child simply enters the studio quickly and quietly and immediately joins the lesson.

Dress Code

A special costume especially for dance class is a good idea not only from a hygiene point of view but it also prepares the student mentally for the class ahead.

All students are expected to attend every class in correct and neat attire. Girls wear a sleeveless leotard of any one plain colour (except black) and ¾ length black tights.

The words ‘mendl dance’ may be embroidered in red on the hem of the left leg of the tights.

Please see me for orders for your child’s class costume.  Boys should wear a simple plain colour singlet and a pair of shorts.

Adult students please discuss your dance gear with me.

General

Shoes, belts, scarves and any other adornments are not required nor are they permitted in class.

Please leave the frou-frou and frilly skirts etc at home for dress up play and ensure your child attends each class in their correct dance class attire.

Hair ~ Long hair should be tied in a simple ponytail.  Please do not put your child’s hair in a bun!
